SKF Speedi-Sleeve

SKF Speedi-Sleeve

SKF Speedi-Sleeve is a thin-walled stainless steel wear sleeve that restores a worn shaft to a precision sealing surface — without disassembling the machine, re-machining the shaft, or changing the seal size. When a radial shaft seal has scored a groove into the shaft counterface, the Speedi-Sleeve is simply pressed over the damaged area to give the seal a smooth, round, wear-resistant surface to run against again. Installation takes only a few minutes, making it the proven repair for worn shafts across pumps, gearboxes, motors and heavy machinery.

Technical Properties

The SKF Speedi-Sleeve is manufactured from a proprietary stainless steel with an optimised, low-directionality counterface finish that is often better than can be achieved on the shaft itself. Its ultra-thin 0.28 mm wall presses on with an interference fit — no adhesive is needed within the shaft range — while microscopic lubricant pockets keep the sealing lip supplied and prevent dry running. A removable flange simplifies installation, and a Speedi-Sleeve Gold version with a metallic coating is available for highly abrasive duties. These seals also feature:
  •  Wall thickness: ultra-thin 0.28 mm (0.011 in.) — fits under the existing seal without changing the seal size.
  • Material: proprietary stainless steel; Gold version with a metallic coating for highly abrasive applications.
  • Surface finish: Ra 0.25–0.5 µm (10–20 µin.) with minimised directionality (0° ±0.05) for an optimal seal counterface.
  • Shaft size range: suits shaft diameters from 11.99 to 203.33 mm (0.472 to 8 in.); non-standard sizes available on request.
  • Fit: interference (press) fit — no adhesive required within range; removable flange for easy fitting.
  • Operating limits (tested): temperatures up to 110 °C (225 °F) and linear shaft speeds up to 8.6 m/s (1,700 ft/min).
  •  Proven performance: reduces sealing-lip wear by about 30% versus the previous generation, outperforms a chromium-plated surface by a factor of two, and showed no corrosion after 600 hours of continuous salt spray.
  • Installation: fits in minutes with no shaft disassembly or re-machining.

Usage

  • Restoring worn or scored shaft seal counterfaces without machining the shaft.
  •  Repairing shafts in pumps, gearboxes, electric motors and compressors.
  • Heavy industrial, mining and construction equipment — with the Gold version for abrasive environments.
  •  Agricultural, off-highway and general rotating equipment.
  •  Any application where a radial shaft seal has worn a groove and the shaft must be brought back to a reliable sealing surface.
  • A fast, cost-effective alternative to shaft replacement that extends equipment life.
