Electrical safety gloves give the hands an insulating barrier during work near live electrical equipment. Dee Pee Rubber supplies these gloves in two makes, Commander and Crystal, made in India and proof-tested to IS 4770, in ratings for different voltage levels so a tested pair can be matched to the job.
About the gloves
Commander and Crystal electrical safety gloves are insulating rubber gloves manufactured in India. They conform to IS 4770, the Indian Standard for rubber gloves for electrical purposes. The Crystal make is manufactured using a seamless dipping process that moulds the glove as one piece without using glue. The test voltage, standard, date of test and testing laboratory are printed on each glove, giving a traceable record for both safety and audit. Both makes are supplied in one universal size with a gauntlet length of 15 inches. The voltage printed on a glove is its factory proof-test voltage. The maximum voltage it may be used at is lower and is set by the glove’s class under IS 4770.
The range
Four options are available so you can match the make and voltage to the work:
- Commander Electrical Safety Gloves — 15,000 V (Orange), proof-tested to IS 4770:1991
- Commander Electrical Safety Gloves — 33,000 V (Yellow), proof-tested to IS 4770:1968
- Crystal Electrical Safety Gloves — 15,000 V (White), proof-tested to IS 4770:1991
- Crystal Electrical Safety Gloves — 33,000 V (White), proof-tested to IS 4770:1968
See each product page for the full details on each pair.
Choosing and using the right glove
Choosing the right gloves starts from the working voltage of the task. The voltage printed on a glove is its proof-test voltage, and the maximum voltage it may be used at is lower and set by the glove’s class under IS 4770. So the safe method is to identify your working voltage, then select the class rated for it, confirmed by a qualified electrical engineer. Air-test and inspect each glove before use, keep gloves clean, dry and away from heat and sunlight, and have them periodically re-tested. Withdraw any glove that fails a check. Electrical safety gloves are one layer of protection and are always used with safe isolation and correct procedure, never on their own.
